Exhibition: New Surrealism

Saturday, Jan 26, 2019 from 11:00am to 5:00pm

Location: Preston Jackson Gallery

Students of art history recognize that Surrealism permeates the art of today so much that the influence is often not commonly recognized. This exhibit is a survey of some mid-west artists (Bob Doucette of Peoria, Chris Hutson of Peoria, Gabe Lanza of Chicago, Justin Henry Miller of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Felicia Olin of Springfield, Chris Vance of Bondurant, Iowa, Mark Winter of Milwaukee) who are beating the drum harder than most, but still may not like to be labeled. Besides the depiction of illogical juxtaposition of subjects and dreamlike environs, references to popular culture and a macabre sense of humor connect these artists.
