Pere Marquette State Park
Pere Marquette State Park is a nature lover's paradise. In addition to enjoying the spectacular views of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating.
This was a fun park. The vista's were beautiful overlooking the Mississippi River valley. The waters were high after the recent floods due to the spring rain. The park has a way cool lodge that can host events and weddings. We were there on a day trip, but it would be fun as a weekend getaway.
We went there to go horseback riding the tour guide Enos was friendly the trail ride was good. When we got back to the stables and asked to have our picture taken with the horses next each other we were told NO. The girl Christy was rude I made a suggestion on how I wanted our picture taken in the stables and she wouldn't even try it. We were not happy and will NOT go back. She needs to be alot more polite to customers. We have been horseback riding at a half dozen places. They always have the horses stand next to each other to take a picture. And when she was done she gave my husbands phone back to him and said you have several pictures to choose from you can exit through the gate. She didn't give us a chance to even look at the pictures. We will NOT go back there.
Great trails and lookouts. Campground was good, restrooms fair. Decent visitor center and unique historic lodge.
Pete Marquette State Park has wonderful trails to walk. They are approximately 6 miles from the quaint river town of Grafton where you can do a great zip line and check out the best view in the area at Aerie's Winery. Pere Marquette has the best fried chicken that can't be beat.
This park is very nice, the scenic drive is very beautiful, there are lots of things to do there. I will be going back, we enjoyed the look out centers on the scenic drive.
